The Fine and Performing Arts Department is dedicated to excellence in music, theatre, and visual art.
WUHSMS’s artistic offerings pave the way for students to embark on a journey of creative exploration, intellectual curiosity, skill mastery, and self-expression.
WUHSMS teachers guide students across the realms of performing arts, visual arts, and music, nurturing their artistic passions every step of the way.
Music
There are multiple opportunities for students to explore the world of music while at WUHSMS.
High school and middle school band are full year courses designed to explore and perform engaging and challenging music of a variety of styles. These large ensembles are the core of the instrumental music program and a central part of the school culture. The groups perform throughout the year at school, in the community, and beyond.
High school digital music production courses are semester long programs of study designed to offer students exciting opportunities in creating and sharing music. No specific level of musical ability or experience is required.
In addition, choir and instrumental exploration are open to middle school students as electives.
Performing Arts
Students create worlds on stage through intensive exploration of text, acting skills, and technical design.
Yoh Theatre is open to all students, and meets after school. Our players produce four plays each year: three full-length plays in October, December and May, and a musical in March. Students are invited to act, be involved with lighting, set building, sound design, costume and props work, gathering skills from professional workshops, as well as from working within the group. Everyone is welcome. High school students receive a ¼ credit per play.
In addition, Theatre Lab is offered as an elective during the school day to middle school students.
Visual Arts
Students are encouraged to try a variety of visual arts to enrich their understanding of the elements, principles, and expressive qualities of the arts.
